portraitBorn in Vancouver, BC in 1970 and raised in Europe, Heather was educated in Germany and focused on Literature and Writing in her early studies. She has always had a special love for books and the art of collage. After moving back to Vancouver, BC in 2000, Heather turned her creative focus to the visual arts and earned a degree in Art History from UBC. At the same time she started to experiment with bookmaking and emerged herself deeper into the art of collage. It was the beginning of a magical journey into artistic expression that continues to evolve and blossom.

Heather is mostly self-taught and draws inspiration from her rich inner landscapes as well as the world of art she was exposed to during her art history studies, including photography, film and poetry. She incorporates found objects, vintage images and ephemera to create enticing works of art that explore the creation of and relation between visual image, narrative, memory, and imagination. She often enriches her books’ intriguing imagery with her own poetry. Heather is currently working on artist books that combine text and collage.

Artist's Statement
"In my art I seek to express all the stories and pictures that I carry within me. Through my imagination they are being transformed and reborn as artistic expression. It allows me to embark on a quest, to express emotions, to tell a story, and to create beauty and magic."
